Cartilage tympanoplasty; Various techniques and outcome

In recent decade there is an obvious trend in tympanoplasty to use the cartilage as a graft material. Cartilage has some advantages over fascial graft, therefore; Otologist prefer to use cartilage instead of fascia. Revision surgery, perforation more than 50% of tympanic membrane, bilateral chronic otitis media, eustachian tube dysfunction and recent or active otorrhea.
There is so many techniques and each surgeon has his or her own technique. But three or four classic techniques have classified as these categories: palisade, butterfly, shield and island graft.
